Frequently Asked Questions
ParkWise’s goal is to solve the street parking problem. We do this by allowing drivers to automatically share information about parking availability with each other and by helping drivers avoid parking tickets.
Based on your selected parking duration (the filter setting on the top right corner), we highlight streets accordingly. Green means there is no street cleaning scheduled in this period. Red means there is an upcoming street cleaning, which ParkWise will alert you about in time. In the settings menu, you can configure the notifications.

ParkWise uses behavioral analysis technology (and optionally the Bluetooth in your car) as well as your GPS, to automatically detect where and when you park.

When you are looking for a spot, just open ParkWise and look for Open Spot and Leaving Soon icons in your area. It is that simple! Once you take an offered spot, it will not show up to other users. When you click on an icon, you can see how long that spot has been open. The longer a spot remains available, the more the icon dims out.

To increase your chances to find a spot, we would advise on doing things in this order:

- First look for Leaving Soon, a sign that a driver will soon head out.

- A bright Open Spot icon is a sign that the spot has just been vacated and is most likely still available.

- Finally, even a dimmed out Open Spot icon still has a good chance to be available.

ParkWise will send you a notification before the street cleaning starts at your current parking location (default is 30 minutes, but you can change this in the settings), so you can move your vehicle in time and avoid costly tickets.
We have worked tremendously hard to get our data as accurate as possible and get the maximum out of the current technologies. Having said that, GPS data is not always 100% correct, but is usually close enough for the data to still be accurate. We have carefully mapped out the city streets and the relevant regulations that come with it. While we do our utmost to keep them as correct as possible, on a rare occasion an error can creep in. Please report to us if something is wrong or missing, and we will make sure to update our system as soon as possible. The parking availability data becomes more reliable the more drivers use ParkWise.
When we map out data on cities, we do so carefully and try to make sure all the data is correct. As time goes by, we add more and more cities to our system. If you would like to see your city in our system, let us know! We often decide on the next city to tackle by the amount of interest we get from users. (Incidentally, if you know of an existing city database with regulations we could incorporate into our system as well, please drop us a mail.)
Our parking functionality (remembering where you parked, exchanging data between drivers leaving and looking for a spot) works everywhere. As you will notice, some areas contain larger clusters of users. The more users use ParkWise in a certain area, the more practical and useful it gets. Another reason to get the word out as much as possible! As for parking regulations, we currently offer data for Boston, New York City, San Francisco and New Jersey (Hoboken, Union City and West New York). If you would like to see your city in our system, let us know! We often decide on the next city to tackle by the amount of interest we get from users.
If you parked somewhere and didn’t get a notice in time for the street cleaning, there is probably something serious that went wrong. Please send us the details and we will make sure to look into it diligently to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The goal of ParkWise is to help drivers as much as possible. In the rare cases where the GPS provided erroneous data or the regulations changed quicker than we could update them, we cannot be held responsible if you received a ticket as a result. We would recommend to double check your location in the app and any relevant parking signs when in doubt. Please report to us if something is wrong or missing, and we will make sure to update our system as soon as possible.
We use ParkWise ourselves and we know how important it is for the battery not to be drained. We have given a lot of energy (and still do every day) to optimize the battery consumption as much as possible. With each version, we improve our battery consumption significantly.
Absolutely! No personal data leaves your phone through ParkWise.
